Understanding Personality Insights
Ferretly's personality Insights feature uses the OCEAN (Big Five) model to provide an estimated profile of a subject's personality traits based on their social media posts. The OCEAN framework, a widely recognized psychological model, assesses five key dimensions: Openness (creativity and curiosity), Conscientiousness (organization and dependability), Extraversion (sociability and energy), Agreeableness (cooperation and kindness), and Neuroticism (emotional stability and stress levels). Our implementation is inspired by peer reviewed research from Stoughton, Thompson, and Meade (2013), which explored correlations between personality traits and social media behaviors, such as references to substance use or criticisms of others.
To generate these insights, Ferretly analyzes the subject's publicly available posts by feeding their text content into a neural network. This AI model has been trained on datasets linking linguistic patterns and posting behaviors to OCEAN traits, allowing it to predict trait scores as percentages (e.g., 75% for Openness, indicating a relatively high level). The process involves natural language processing to identify patterns like word choice, sentiment, and topics that align with established personality indicators from the research.
Please note that these predictions are approximate and for informational purposes only—they are not a substitute for professional psychological assessments. Results may vary based on the volume and nature of available posts, and they do not account for context, cultural differences, or changes in behavior over time. Ferretly recommends using this feature as one part of a holistic review and consulting experts for any critical decisions.
